I have a 1969 merc 200. It has a hot blue spark. Compression is great. The carb has been cleaned. It will not fire, It seems that no fuel is getting into the cyls. The only way I can get it to fire briefly, is to sqiurt fuel into the spark plug holes. When pulled to start, some fuel drips from the carb air horn. Can this be corrected without a complete teardown? Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Is the fuel bowl filling? If not, why?

fuel bowl is filling. If I take it off and blow air through the venturi, I can see the fuel mist coming out

That would tend to indicate that there’s fuel in the bowl, and at least one of the fuel circuits is flowing. Still the same, I’d verify that the fuel level in the bowl is correct, and that the low speed circuit isn’t plugged-up.

If that’s all a-ok, then you need to think about vacuum issues – like, a bad intake or carb mounting gasket, poor crank seals, etc.

Mean to say, if you have fuel in the bowl and circuits that flow freely, the only remaining requirement is vacuum.

I would think the needle is stuck in the seat perhaps. I would tear down the carb first.

Did you hear the carb bowl filling, then the ball tighten as the needle seated?
