I am replacing all of the usual ignition components on my TN-27. I had been careful about the whole business as I did it to be sure I didn’t lose any parts, BUT . . . at one point, when the disassembly was nearly complete, I turned the armature plate over and two lock washers fell on the table. They were obviously missed because the plate was pretty gummy and greasy despite the care I thought I was taking. Trouble is, I can’t figure out where they go now that I am reassembling. I suspect, after a lot of searching the parts diagrams, that they are part no. 3-28. Are there washers on on both sides of the timing lever on the screws that fasten it to the armature plate? Any guidance would be appreciated. 😳

Is the mag plate held down with the 3rd bolt that holds the coils AND the 2 other small bolts? Are the lock washers pretty small? They might be for "2 other small bolts".

Those machine screws at the centre of the plate have flat washers on them. Did they have lock washers also?

              Archangel,

If it makes you feel any better, today I spent the better part of 2 hours chasing a no spark on one plug issue on a 1968 Lightwin. First I swapped plugs, then cleaned the points, then swapped a condenser, then the coil. No Joy!

Then it dawned on me that I was on the wrong side of the Mag plate from where I should have been!!!! Cleaned the other set of points and running on 2 cylinders again.

              Humility has it’s place.

Thanks, Dave. It isn’t interesting if it isn’t a challenge, right? You and I probably just needed to spice up the simple stuff so we subconsciously made the easy stuff harder. 😉
