I’m going to be replacing a bad exhaust valve on a 2000 Honda 8hp twin and was wondering do I need to lap the new valve?

      Thanks

Yes, lap it in using fine grade Cloverleaf or another brand of lapping compound until you have an even pattern on the face of the valve. If the seat is worn, you may have to use coarse compound or have them ground by a machine shop. Oil the stem after cleaning all of the compound off and you are good to go.

If I remember correctly, those valves get set quite tight, around 0.003" or so.
