My 1939 2 hp Neptune 2A39 is supposed to use a "non-channeling waterproof grease". What do you guys recommend.

Secondly, is the hole at the rear of the gear-case above the prop the fill hole, or do you pump it in through the typical drain hole toward the bottom?

      Thanks.

Two popular choices for gearcases are Lubriplate 105 (now sold mostly for engine assembly),
and "corn head grease", see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=919

I was taught to fill from the bottom, to prevent air pockets from forming.

I fill from the bottom, and I vent it by removing the top screw on the prop shaft bearing holder (what do you call this part?).

+1 for John Deere Corn Head Grease, works well for me.

One more question, I’m going to fill the gear housing from the bottom drain hole as suggested, but should I fill it until the grease starts to come out of the top hole?
