What is the best way to attach a new spark plug wire to an existing Wico coil on a 1939 2 hp Neptune?

      Thanks.

Just going from memory, but if that coil has a tab with a hole it is actually pretty simple. This works for all coils, with tabs, Scintilla is one I can recall from recent memory… Anyway, strip 3/4 of an inch of insulation from the plug wire. ONLY TIN the very end, no more than the end, the purpose to just to hold the end together. You don’t want a huge ball of solder either, just enough to hold the strands together. I should say that like 5 more times huh?…LOL Then you feed the wire thru the mag plate and then slip the VERY lightly soldered end thru the tab, and wrap it back around the tab and itself, kinda like putting a bread wrapper twisty tie back on the loaf of bread after a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. 🙂

I have read sometimes manufactures advise then soldering the VERY lightly soldered tip to itself kinda away from the tab, but I have found ounce you remove the slack and place the coil in its new home the wire is generally held well, and "most" coils have a clamp to assist in holding the wire in place.

        Hope this helps….

          Hi Richard,

That’s awesome! I didn’t see the tab until I took a closer look because the original wire was butted up against it and there was a lot of dirt around the tab. I understand the tinning process and will follow your suggestions.

          Thank you very much.

Remember, ONLY tin the END, just the tip, as little as possible….LOL
