I have gone through a number of omc carbs but never one this small. During reassembly, I noticed the nozzle didn’t screw back in very far into the upper carb. I didn’t make a note when I took it all apart. It did have a gasket on it but i’m replacing it with the one in the picture. It seems to be keeping the 2 carb halves from going back together nicely. I have noticed much of the same on RD/Bigtwin carbs, but on this one it seems like the gasket is keeping the halves even further apart than on the bigger carbs.

Does it look like the nozzle is seated properly? sure looks like a lot of threads still visible on it.
Also, anybody know the initial carb settings on these lghtwins?

    thanks!
    scott

That is way too far out. Needs to be screwed in further.

Certainly does look strange. I assume you don’t see any reason for it not going in any further? Actually, the gasket to top fit doesn’t seem so bad. odd…

Well, maybe it is OK after all. I just grabbed a carburetor at random and measured the nozzle protrusion. It sticks out 5/16" How does that compare with yours? I notice you are using an o-ring. I do that too, so no complaints from me. But the cork gasket that belongs in there gets considerable squeeze. As I said earlier, the bowl gasket seems ok.

thanks frank, by the time I read your post, I already had it back together. I am continuing to have trouble keeping this motor running. starts fine but dies from what appears to be flooding. I just went through the carb with new everything. when it’s lying on it’s rests with the carb facing skyward and then gets stood straight up, fuel runs out of the lower unit through the exhaust holes, etc. i’m assuming fuel is continuing to flow into the carb, through the crankcase, into the cylinders and out through the exhaust ports. any idea why this is happening? I seem to have a funky non stock petcock for the fuel shut off. I suspect this may be to blame. it’s the kind that does not close (screw) shut but when it is in line, the fuel flows but when it’s at 90 degrees to the fuel line it’s shut off. here’s a picture of it.

so can anyone tell me the initial carb settings for the lightwins?
    thanks!

Adjustment is 1 turn for Slow speed, and 3/4 turn for High speed.( This is for my JW11, so should be the same.

    DAVID: thanks for the settings!

FRANK: i removed and disassembled the carb from my 1957 JW 13 and measured how far out the nozzle was. 5/16 precisely. I guess I better take the evinrude carb apart again and see if the nozzles are the same and investigate further.

any idea why fuel would be flowing out of the leg?

First, that is not the correct shut-off valve. But if it works, what the heck. As for the fuel, all I can say is that when laying down the float doesn’t "float". At least not in the right direction.
