I will need to find a ignition plate and all the associated stuff for that. What goes with it? Does anyone have a couple of good pictures? Part numbers? Shoot, I’m not even sure what they are actually called.

Also, where can I find longer control cables for the throttle and shifter? I have a 50’s Evinrude box, but I’ll need cables probably 8′ long or longer. How much slack should they have? (meaning, what’s the minimum radius they can function at long term)

Teleflex (now Seastar?) 400-series cables are available new in lengths from 6 to 20 feet.

Asa – The cables are still available at an OMC authorized dealership. Not cheap but available. Put an ad in Webvertise for the choke and start plates.
Consult a wiring diagram for proper wiring. Not difficult at all. Sounds like you are nearing the home stretch on this project!

Asa, here’s a page with some of the early dash switch plates:
    http://www.aomci.org/forum/viewtopic.ph … 952&p=5011

After these were the stainless plates with a round hole for an emblem.
Those came in two flavors: ones with the words "push to start" and later, "turn to start"
I got one of the latter from Dan Gano.

Here are some part numbers I had saved away… I was able to find sources by putting evinrude or OMC and the part number into google:

    304906 (push to start) 1957
    305666 (turn to start) 1958

    204015 — 1957 evinrude medalion
    204158 — 1958 evinrude medalion
    278113 — 1959 evinrude medalion

    204689 color E w/ wings — key switch only (no choke) — 1960
    $8.95 @ marine engine
    http://www.burtgoodnoughsmarina.com/store/page14.html $3 (used)

204887 Evinrude Logo (color) — key switch only (1961+????)

    553298 EVINRUDE JOHNSON side-by-side (red) — used on 1965 60hp
(was available for $4 at marine engine)

    312080 OMC Evinrude/Johnson Switch Plate
    top: choke switch (toggle)
bot: turn to start; off at 9:30, flat at 12:00, start at 1:30
    $5.01 @ marine engine!!
    $4.84 @ go2marine.com

This is the evinrude dash plate that would match those shift/throttle controls you have in your picture. It would be the correct plate for 1954 and 1955 evinrude electric start models.

And this would be the correct dash plate for the 1956 evinrude electric start motors. 1956 year only.

Here’s one place to get the Teleflex 400 series cables, – you put your existing plastic ends on them. There are other online places too. They are great cables at reasonable prices. If your steering is on the starboard side, like most boats, you will likely need your throttle cable to be a foot longer than the gearshift cable, sometimes 2 feet longer. Measure carefully and allow big radius bends
