Install the lightly greased retainer with the flat side up. OMC did make an upgrade kit, P/N 580871, to get rid of the wobble in the mag plate. Another way to do it is to raise the metal slightly on the powerheads bearing surface by lightly centre punching in several places on the surface. I punch a row of three or four impressions in six or eight areas and check the fit after each row. If it’s too tight, you’ll have to file the area down slightly. Most of my fifties motors have had this treatment done and it works quite well to help keep the point gap and timing where it should be.
