Finally got to tear down my Sportwin (4305-00861) and it definitely needs a set of plug wires. While I’m in there, I’d like to test the coil and condensor, but I’m not quite sure how. I’m horrible with anything electrical… All I’ve got at the moment is a multimeter. Just wondering where I should test and what to test for.

There’s several good videos on YouTube.
        Here’s one…..

Thanks, that helped a lot. I tested everything, replaced the plug wires and put it back together and now I’ve got a nice fat blue spark. Unusually, I didn’t even have to clean the points! Should be ready to run in the morning- What fuel mix should I use to run it?

Glad to hear you have spark!
I would guess at least 16:1 on the oil mixture,
but hopefully someone can tell you for sure.

According to Evinrude – a third af a pint of oil to each gallon of unleaded gasoline. . . 😉

Thanks! I’m definitely saving that table since I come across so many 30’s ‘rudes!

Looks like I’ve got one more question- seems to be running okay, but the cord for the recoil start just went. Is there any source for new ones? It appears to be a metal cable covered with either cloth or a rope type material.

Someone may know where to source wire rope core starter rope, but I just replace mine with a good commercial quality hard diamond braid starter rope. I have had no issues with the ones I have replaced this way.

The issue I have some times when replacing wire core rope with
standard issue, is that the wire core styles have a special "hook"
attached to the wire, and when using regular rope sometimes
it’s hard to knot the end without it rubbing on the flywheel.

Do you think this stuff will work if I can find a package of less than 100 feet? It looks pretty similar to what came out of it
