1951 Johnson QD12 10HP parts manual

Postby Bob D » Sat Dec 02, 2017 4:12 pm

Hi all, would anyone have a copy (PDF) of the parts, and owners manuals for a 1951 Johnson 10HP QD 12.
My new winter project has begun, and this motor has an unusual front shift mechanism that I'm not familiar with.
Thanks,
Bob D

Thanks Jim, your stash always amazes me.
Needed some visual guidance on this one....quirky little motor with the front shift lever, and the dual throttle arrangement.

Mumbles,
Thank you for the parts and owners manuals. Those will be handy.

Bob,
I'm certainly no expert, but I have a few of these motors and have worked on each of the basically 3 versions or generations of this motor. You can PM if you get stumped or have a question. I'll try to answer for you. They are good strong runners and pretty light for a 10 horse. They tend to be a bit noisy and thirsty but durable and reliable in my experience.

Ben, thanks so much for the offer. I read your past post, where you rejuvenated yours with the cream color top. What threw me was changing the impeller, but after I removed the upper and lower covers on the back of the lower unit, I figured out how to unbolt the c bracket to drop the unit. I'm glad the OMC designers changed that design later in the 50's!

Bob,
You're welcome. Dropping the LU on these motors is a bit of an exercise to be sure. I, too, am very glad they changed this design. I had a time with this as well. I do still enjoy these motors tough. Despite theirs various quirks and idiosyncrasies they are a quite revolutionary and historical step in the evolution of outboards as we know them today.

The '52 you are referring to was my first experience with one of these. I also have a '53 that is a good runner but needs a few things addressed. I have a '49 partially apart and hope.to get to it over the winter and run it next season. One from each of the sort of versions that were built. I have a few others that are in the pile that may again see a transom if I get a chance and a few more parts. I have no shortage of projects though. :?
