Evinrude Johnson antique outboard motor tool 675023 starter spring winder 1950's

I never seen a tool to wind the rewind springs.
What is the plan "after" you wind the spring on
the gizmo? Bind it with tie wraps or the likes,
then remove it, to drop in the housing?

Grab it with a vise-grip pliers and drop it into the housing.

Never had one, never used one, never wanted one. I simply wind the spring into the housing like coiling up a garden hose. Easy

I have a small commercial winder here for chain saws and the like but it's too small for our classic motors. I also have a crop from a cylinder sleeve which is the correct size and the plan is to reverse engineer the commercial one some day so I can make one for the OMC's. To be honest, the 'to do' list is getting longer and my spare time is getting shorter.

Then perhaps you should buy the one on e-bay. They don't show up very often. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I saved the photos from EBay as I thought that would
make a fun little project on the lathe, etc.
My project list is also getting too long. Went from
snow on the ground two weeks ago to 88 degrees
today....... lawn is going nuts. :(

I try to employ the help of one of my sons when i change a spring. Another set of hands helps a ton! I have found them frustrating too.
