P35 and P40 manifolds

Postby Lyks2Tinkr » Tue Sep 11, 2018 12:57 pm

Can someone please supply some pictures or at least some description of the correct exhaust manifolds for each motor?
My P40 has the manifolds that have side ribs.
My P35 has manifolds that are smooth.
I have a spare set of large manifolds but they just look like large versions of an A35 and I think they are for a P30.

I just received some pictures of another members nice looking P35 and it has the ribbed manifolds.

The parts list I have shows smooth for P35 has different part number for P40.I assume they are ridged. My P35 came with one of each.To further complicate matters check the pictures from Antique Outboarder archives.

Both the P35 nd P40 had ribbed manifolds. The in late 1928 or 29 they came up with the accessory muffler for the P35 and P40 which was the "box" shapped part riveted to the round tube. This was also the mounting point for the accessory underwater exhaust.

The P30 has smooth manifolds and I know with certainty that they are one year only parts.

Hope that helps

Richard,
I should have been more specific in my post. The runner portion is smooth on the P30 as pictured. The P35 and P40 have ribs all the way along the runner. All of the larger motors had some type of ribbed reinforcemnt in the flance area. I have seen quite a few A series manifolds that are distorted where the cylinder type wrap mounts. I would assume that this was caused by heat, but not sure.

The P-40 did not come standard with compression release,---it was an option. In the Johnsons Accessories catalog you will see a listing for accessory cylinders for A-35, K-40, KR-40, P-40 and PR-40. Underwater exhaust was also available as an option for those motors as well as the KL and PL long shaft versions.
