The E/J oil at Walmart is indeed a BRP product but it is a different formulation made for the mass market stores. I'm thinking the $28/gallon stuff is the synthetic blend product. You should definitely not use that oil in your ETEC motor. Here is some more information from the Evinrude community website regarding the Walmart BRP oil:

Good info, appreciate the clarification.

I have no problem spending money for quality, but I do like to know what Im buying to start with!

I guess the XD products are just another way to make more cash off of us for BRP. Sort of the way Apple does the same with many of their products.

The cost of oil is minimal compared to the overall initial investment, operation and maintenance of a quality outboard. I ran XD-50 in my 1998 Evinrude that saw nothing but salt water use and it's still running strong with a new owner (sold it to a neighbor). I really like the XD100 in my ETEC 150 even at $40/gallon. To me, this really is a case of "you get what you pay for".

Oil has ALWAYS been cheaper than parts. Especially parts that are impossible to find, However sooner or later the cost of the fuel will have to reflect the cost to the planet. . . ;)

I use the Mercury Quicksilver Full Synthetic for PWC....

I run it in my 100+ year old motors... amazing how clean they are when you open one up after a season.

So is there a difference in the PWC oil vs the "regular " 2 stroke oil?

I have never used the Mercury PWC Oil you mention, but I know that the BRP Seadoo XPS Oil is used by racers as it is meant to run in motors that turn very high RPMS. For a racing motor, I believe it or the Red Line synthetic racing oil is likely best.
