My wife just bought me a Montgomery Ward Sea King 7hp, made by Clinton Engines, K700 1107A. The issue I have is the whole shifter assembly appears missing, I can see the hole where it should go (the prior owner had added neutral/ forward labels where it should appear, so I know I’m looking in the right place). However, even with the schematic I found on SearsPartsDirect, I can’t tell how it should look on that side with the cover off, is there a chance someone could post or point me to some pictures of what it should look like?

Secondary question, will the motor default to forward motion or neutral with this missing – i.e., how necessary is it really to have it in place?
