Well....I think you are in the right place (forum) now. You may want to look into local chapters where you are and attend a meet when you can.
Believe you are going to be hooked on this the same way a bunch of us are.....so, sit back and enjoy the ride.

I love seeing the pictures of Your boats! and they are an inspiration to get mine restored. Being a novice i'll stick with the Johnnyrudes for now. For some reason we don't see to have many vintage merc's in our area. I did come across a 1959 18 hp evinrude I have been able to come up with the funds to buy it yet, since my boat is a 1960 or I think it is and it's blue and white like the evinrude of that era I'd like to put one of those on it. My boat is going to need a full strip and pain because the pain is in rough shape, the paint is crackled throughout the whole boat. It's been a project ive been wanting to work on for a few years it's just tough working 6 days a week and having 2 teenagers involved in 3 sports. I used to race Vintage snowmobiles but after 15 years of doing that I "retired" after I lived my dream of racing at the world championship at Eagle River. So I will be on here and will become more active on tinboats looking for retor tips. I appreciate the warm welcome!!

Tim - The 1959 18hp would be a 50th Anniv. engine as well. Has a different raised emblem denoting the anniversary. That would be a good engine to run on it. Would also disagree about the 15hp being a dog. They run pretty close to the 18hp and would be a good choice as a first engine. Can always go up from there and from the sound of it I am thinking you will go up in horsepower.

Nice job on that boat, Reynolds49 ! What is that sticking down directly in front of the gearcase?

Hey Reynolds, you do know that is about the world's worst location for a speedometer I hope......directly in line or anywhere within around 12" of centerline of a gearcase. Needs to be even farther from the gearcase C/L on larger faster hulls.

Pappy,
Thanks for that info! I haven't run the lines to the pitot tube yet. I stuck it there for the ease of fastening to wood and avoid drilling holes thru transom. I will move it as far to the side as I can.
