I picked up a Johnson 10 hp QD-20 today on its way to the scrap yard. A couple pulls on the recoil revealed that it is not turning the flywheel. However I pulled the recoil off and gave it a pull with a rope and it seemed to want to start. But the recoil is clearly missing a spring or some other parts to connect with the flywheel. What would I be missing?

July 23, 2016 at 2:43 am #40727They’re both off of QD’s. I just forgot which year on the one on the right. Either a ’56 or "57
July 23, 2016 at 2:47 am #40729Looks like I’m missing a spring and tab. The question is do I replace the whole recoil or just those parts?
July 23, 2016 at 2:49 am #40730Check the length of the plastic pawl. The one on the right looks worn off or a broken tip.
July 23, 2016 at 4:29 am #40733I would just replace the missing pieces unless you can find a complete recoil locally, as shipping costs for a whole recoil might be prohibitive.
quote rickrodt:Check the length of the plastic pawl. The one on the right looks worn off or a broken tip.Yeah, the one on the right is worn. The nylon has been smooshed up on the end. I just posted the pic for reference for mgsolakis. On closer inspection , there are some differences betweeen the two recoils, but I am guessing they would interchange . The motors that these two recoils came from were beyond repair like so many, they ingested water 😥 I do have 3 other QD runners though !
July 23, 2016 at 4:38 am #40734On further further inspection, the nylon pawl has been installed the wrong way on the one on the right, 😯 probably causing the end to be smooshed.
July 23, 2016 at 1:04 pm #40743Thanks for posting the picture Wedgie, if I was going to ask on webadvertise what would I be asking for? The spring and tab from the recoil?
