Elto Senior Speedster

Postby bill_loveland » Tue Apr 03, 2018 3:55 pm

Picked up a Senior Speedster yesterday with serial number 310 0716P.

Any idea what the "P" denotes?

Also, is anybody making repo's of the gearcase nose cone and the gas cap (female thread)?

Not sure what the "P" is about. Maybe ask Harry Nicholson or Sam Vance, not necessarily in that order.

Gas cap fits many other Evinrudes and Eltos of the time period, even a cap off a 4 HP Fisherman or Sportwin would work.

Lower unit nose cone - which one is which?

One is circa 1930, the other circa about 10 minutes ago

So I gave Sam Vance a call, and he was stumped - best he could offer is that maybe it was returned to the factory for some re-work - asked me to check if the serial number appeared on a freeze plug or the crankcase, so I checked - nothing on the freeze plugs, but the crankcase....

first, here's the tag:

I believe your model 311 was a 1930 electric start Senior Speedster built on special order from surplus spare Parts. At that time Ole, although still working at the factory six and seven days a week, had taken his name off the payroll, while the factory assembly workers were only working three days a week. 95% of the motors sold cost less than $150. Bess at his side doing the work of secretaries they could no longer afford. In '31 and '32 Ole put in $50,000 of his savings to keep the business afloat. Bess litterally worked herself to death in 1933, then Ole died of a broken heart in 1934 . . . :(

Now I have to look at mine and see if it has a P after it.

I have three other 310's - none of them have a letter

I also have a 311 clamp bracket (and tag) on my 1930 electric start Quad - again, no letter.
