It’s pretty amazing. They went from no shroud (up until the 1950’s), to a shroud that was an engineering marvel, with those two matched molds, and a very complicated shape, with a very uniform thickness. It’s like the Wright brothers going from a bicycle to a Saturn 5 rocket.
If you asked me to design the first shroud in 1951, I’d give you a large "shoe box" of aluminum panels riveted together.
