      On my 1950 5 hp Firestone’s cowling, there is a hole in the front
      that I believe the gas tank shut off valve protrudes from, but
      I don’t see how the valve mounted any where to keep it from flopping
      around. The original fuel hose to the valve was replace before I got
      it with a piece of rubber fuel line, so perhaps the mounting was lost
      at that time.

      Also, I presume I’m missing a spark plug access panel / rear part of the
      starboard cowling.
      Anyone have photos of what it looked like?
      The Scott manual was of no help……. appears to be lots of differences
      between the Firestone and Scott 5 hp in 1950.

        In 1950 all Scot built motors used copper tubing and brass fittings for fuel lines. The shutoff valve was behind the access hole it MAY have had a knob like the 2 above it but I am not sure.

        The rear starboard cover was a cast piece similar to the other covers. Many of them are missing.

          What are the casting numbers on the inside of the cowls ?

            I suppose if it were all brass tubing the shut off valve may be
            rigid enough to stick thru the cowling and stay in place.
            Will have to study that thought closer.
            I will check the casting numbers tomorrow…… garage all
            locked up for tonight!
