When my wife needs to make road trips, we always stick with Motel 6. They’ve been consistently quiet, clean and well-managed. Also, low prices and no rate ‘surprises’ or hidden up-charges. She says that over the last five or so years, many of them have been remodeled – though you still find some with the original 80’s type fittings and decor.

And you can pretty much always find one. She calls me from the road wherever she is, I find the nearest one to her via the net and book her in. I think there’s an additional discount +if+ you book online – even if it’s just an hour before you show up.. so compare the online rate to the front desk quoted rate.
