      I M restoring a 58 18hp Johnson today.

Needs a crank seal. Calls for the 305987 (18-2018)

      I have a bag of the 303804 (or 321467 or 18-2060)

is the only difference single lip versus duoble lip? I believe I can use the 321467 seals on the 1958 18hp but just checking.

I dont have any305987 seals in stock to compare

      thanks

I have the same motor. I went down to the OMC dealer & bought the top seal. Mine works fine now. The bottom seal is the carbon & o-ring correct, can’t remember on that one.

Yes on the ’58 the bottom of the crank has the carbon seal/o ring assembly.

The seals in question, the 303804 were called for on the earlier 15hp motors. Then they changed to the 305987. Same width, ID and OD. I assume the only difference was the quality, double lip added for the newer seals? Just curious.

You are correct, it will be fine. But I think the double lip one has been superseded by another single lip one. So enjoy them while you can.

              Ok great thanks Frank.

I used to have a lot more of them, but have listened to your advice about changing those 303804 seals over the years.

As you preach, they seem to almost always be shot and letting water in the powerhead.

So the double lip is 305987?
The Sierra 18-2018, anyone know if that one has gone to a single lip, or is it still double?

Frank mentioning that they started to change those out makes me want to check before I buy anything
