Hi, Recently acquired the motor in topic title. Model 25920. I need to go through it and replace some components, does anyone have a line on a parts/assembly manual that they would be willing to share?
Do I have one? No. Do I have experience on them? Yes, much experience. Things to look out for? Check your serial number. If greater than 17000, beware. OMC made a major screw-up in the lower crankshaft seal, costing them major $$ in warranty costs. See powerhead pages.
If your motor has a lip seal instead of a carbon seal on top of the crank, they tend to leak after a few years. Not so much with the carbon seals but they have an O ring inside them which can deteriorate over time to.
R.E. mumbles” video: The problem that I mentioned was the motors that had that same seal at the bottom end of the crank. But down there it leaks water into the crankcase, destroying all the bearings.
Here’s some of those troublesome lip seals as found when these powerheads were removed. It’s a good idea to remove any powerhead with these type of seals to have a look and replace if necessary.
