Can the control cables for shift and throttle for a 1957 Johnson 35 HP with corresponding control box be shortened? They are way too long for the boat. If they can be shortened, how do I go about making it happen?

Much easier to simply find shorter cables. I believe you can take the brass ends and barrel nuts off yours (as well as the connectors) and place them onto the 400 Series OMC replacement cables.

The Teleflex cables are still widely available and not too darned expensive. I’d buy new ones that are the correct length.

New 400 cables work SO…. much better than those old thick ’57 vintage cables. All you have to do is change the clips that lock them onto the sides of the motor. Or modify the smaller ones. Or maybe change the trunnions as suggested (?? I’ve never tried that)

Thanks for the tips. Where does one purchase these cables?

Any marine dealer can get Teleflex stuff, if they don’t already have it on the shelf. Or of course, any Evinrude dealer can get the "real" OMC/BRP ones.
