Yesterday I picked up this 1924 Johnson DN, (thanks to a lead from Bill Andrulitis). I’m told that the DN is the canoe version of the model AB (which is the bronze version of the Model A). Looks like it’s mostly there with a few curiosities.
Someone fabricated this wooden transom clamp….adapter? I’d assume that this motor originally came with a canoe bracket. You could buy and swap out for a square stern bracket. I’m not sure what this home made modification is for?

I have been led to believe “C” denotes a canoe motor.
That is based on what Peter Hunn states in his
Old Outboard Book along with this example.
Hunn shows nothing for DN but its not uncommon
for there not to be any record of the uncommon
models.
The brass motors were stamped the way yours is.

Tubs, I had never heard of a Model D until Bill told me about this one. I checked Peter’s book and no mention. A google search brought up a mention in iBoats:
Hopefully other members will chime in with more info.
