I have 1960s style Evinrude 6-gallon fuel tank that came with a ’62 Evinrude Fisherman 5.5 hp motor. No fuel line was included so I bought a new fuel line with modern connectors.

The old fuel tank connector and the old motor connector will not fit the new fuel line connectors unless I drill extra holes in the fuel line connectors. This is a single-line system.

I have a photo of all three, but the AOMCI program tells me it is too big to upload. (15.2 KB) The fuel line connector is #35 in the diagram.  The tank connector is #5.

I have been searching for connectors that fit but I haven’t found any yet. Is this a common problem?

odd because post-60 J&  went single connector  and unless I am wrong  they have not changed

did you purchase the proper hose type … ie: J&E   connectors       and not a look -a- like

            I don’t see a #5 tank connector.

It has to be the wrong fuel line because the OMCs didn’t change for decades, unless somebody put a different connector on the motor and the tank isn’t an OMC tank. I’ve seen Bubba do some crazy things to save a dime.

I pulled an image off the interweb. These are basically what the male and female should look like on a 1962.

The tank connector looks like this. The fuel line is a single line, NOT a dual pressurized line. I can fit a new-style fuel line connector onto this fitting if I use a Dremel tool to grind away some of the plastic, so it doesn’t hit that lower stud. Also, I contacted Doug Brooke at VintageOutboard.com and he says he has fuel line fittings that will work for me.

                        Search: 1 result found for “8056” – VintageOutboard.com

I ordered two and I’ll see how they fit when they get here.

My new quick connect fuel line for my outboard doesn't fit onto this tank, as the tank has three prongs, not two. Any ideas? : r/boating
