      Hi All

Thought you would be interested in the above after your offers of help which were much appreciated and going on info provided, I got the impression that few had done any of this work  on these model

Hopefully the photos will be of interest and may help others.

I drilled the screws out and on removal of the exhaust pipe,( which to my surprise is copper and interesting to note that the drive shaft tube is brass)

The job went well, but you have to be careful not to damage the steel flange, which is not very strong and is somehow attached to the pipe  (brazed possibly)……..there is a lot of leverage possible with the long  exhaust pipe, so be careful!

      Thanks again

Can’t speak for others but I find all pictures interesting
and often of value. Yours seem to show a motor that
hasn’t been stored well. Makes for a real challenge.
The lack of carbon in the exhaust port may indicate
low running hours. A real shame if that is the case.
I’m envious of your ability to keeping the drill bit centered.
        Way above my skill level.
        Tubs.
