Has anyone ever tried that rubberized truck bedding spray as a sound absorbant for OB cowls. My 7.5 Merc is mssing the usual padding . I do have sticky foam I could try as a liner but spraying a couple of coats of rubber under the cowl may dampen the sound just a well and easier to just spray on.

February 11, 2024 at 4:12 am #284813Around 10 years ago, I used “Soundcoat” adhesive backed 1/2″ thick sound insulation on my 1990 Evinrude 15 cowl. It works well, and the job came out decent. It did, however, involve having to make a pattern, then using the pattern pieces as templates to cut 3 panels of the foam.
It looks like the “Boom Mat” spray would be so much easier, and the fit would be custom. Not sure about the soundproofing effectiveness comparison.
February 11, 2024 at 8:17 am #284818I did the pattern thing on a 9.5hp turtle years ago ..worked out ok and I kept the templates. This mid 70s Merc project would be even easier design wise but…I am getting lazy !
I will try 2 coats asa the temp gets warmer outside. (better half wants no sprays in the house !!!)

February 11, 2024 at 11:05 am #284833That product is showing as $27.99 on that Amazon link. Other sites have it from $11.00 or so. I guess the Amazon link is the Canada Amazon and I guess they ship for free.
February 11, 2024 at 12:08 pm #284835agree lots of stuff on Amazon Canada is cheaper at the store… free shipping usually boosts the price and we pay PRIME $99/y for this free shipping 🙁 some items are worth it but buyer beware all the time.
ex : MXR2300 $500 generator was cheap. on sale and delivered fast …. not a honda at $2000 but good enugh based on hundreds of feedback. time will tell.
Honda stuff is good .. my snowblower from 2008 still looks new (with TLC) and works fine (except belts of course)
I saw Teflon snow blower spray for $30 on Amazon $10 locally !!! Seller dropped his price after I sent him info on my local price !!
see 2 links same product !!
btw for my Merc 7.5 cowl……I ended up buying a similar product with sound proofing specs for 15$ 🙂
