      I have been working on a Mercury Wizard WH-6A from 1957 (sold through Western Auto), similar to the Mercury Mark 6. The clutch spring was kinked so I bought a new Mercury 24-22763 clutch spring. It was the same length, but is a smaller diameter wire and softer in terms of pulling on it. With help it was installed but after several tries the motor stays in neutral every time. It was supposed to be a Mercury part, but it doesn’t seem to be tightening on the drive shafts, or for some reason the tab is not catching on the trip release.

      Anyone have any experience or suggestions on what to try?
