Elto Pal model 4266 – I recall that the topic of coil substitution has been addressed here previously, but to no way could I find that thread…. help! Perhaps it was using the surplus military coil? but no point in re-inventing the wheel when brighter minds have already solved the problem.
I’ve had a bunch of Pals, Scouts, and Rangers
and more that half of then didn’t produce a
spark. But it was always the points that needed
to be taken apart and cleaned. I’ve never had a
bad coil. However if your coil is bad,
substituting the surplus military coil should
be relatively easy.

Thanks Tubs, I will go through the points as suggested. maybe there is hope, although the coil shows open with the VOM I do get spark on the Mertronic… hope springs eternal
Yours would be bad then.
I don’t know what the voltage reading is
when that coil is suppose to fire.
If your cranking up the Merc- O- Tronic enough
spark may be jump the gap.
Tubs .
Where might one find a military surplus coil? I have a Johnson HD 15 with an open secondary coil. Mine looks identical to the one in the right side pic.
