There is a 14ft 1988 Grumman GSS with Evinrude 70hp I can get locally… basically I can just pay for the trailer and get the boat and engine gratis. No reg on the boat but I have a stack of extra regs for personal use.

Anyway from what he says the engine might work, might not.. and it will need a new boat floor… this model fishing boat has a live well. and a side console, and other stuff.

Somehow I remember Grumman aluminum being top dollar stuff in the day? is that right? I just cannot fathom a reputable boat builder not using marine grade pressure treated wood? is this normal?

(my dad had a Tracker pontoon in the early 90’s and the just floors rotted right out from the rain ontop and the Lake below.. I felt that tarnished their reputation for me.)

I am no expert but what I have heard, Grumman aluminum was good. My father built the Hellcat fighter in WW2 and after the war worked in the lumber industry. He always said that their way of riveting panels together was superior. Double rivets and closer together even with their boats later on.
As far as marine grade plywood, it has thinner but more cross layering than regular construction plywood. Also, all knot voids in the plies are filled ( no air voids). The adhesive that holds the plies together is also exterior grade.

Pressure treated is a chemical treatment that is forced into the wood using pressure. It is mostly for insect prevention but some wood rot prevention also. Wood when it gets wet will eventually rot. It is a natural fiber product. There is no way to stop it.

Im mistaken it was a 16 ft boat.. grumman css..

It’s gone now…  I let it go to another buyer.

I should have got it but I just felt that two or three or more days of putting a new floor in the boat was not something I was going to get done anytime soon. ..  another lawn trophy
