    1956 Johnson QD-17 10hp.

Im looking for the seals/ o-rings  for the high speed needle valve .

I have fuel leaking out around the brass barrel.   What comes in the carb kit does not fit.

Would anyone happen to have any info or part #s on these seals ?  I can only look at a schematic of a 1958 on Marine Engine.

Thank you , As always appreciate the help !

if you can’t find the parts stuff it with wraps of dental floss or similar  greased fiber

the kit should fit  did you screw down the brass barrel tight..

vintage outboard.com has  kits  Sierra  18-7043  for 2-20hp

I too have had some problems with those fibre packing washers. I bought a cheap generic carb kit on Amazon that came with float and a bunch of unidentifiable stuff for most motors up to 18 hp. The washers would not fit either jet. The float had to be modified to fit. The brass float needle thing had the wrong thread (probably metric). Now this kit cost $15.00. each. So I sent them back and ordered  better kits for a total of $10 more. When it finally arrived, late, I discovered they were exactly the same kits but from a different supplier. Not sure the washers fit either. So I ordered just the packing washers from Sierra directly. Ten in a pack alone cost me $15.00 and they are identical to the ones included in the offshore kit.

It seems that carb kits have gone the same way as the points kits. Useless.

did you try  or talk to vintage outboard about this problem … they know their stuff and I hardly  think they would ship kits that dont fit.

So far I think the Genuine OMC carb kits re OK.  All the right components and good quality.

Marine Engine lists them all here:

            https://www.marineengine.com/parts/brp/johnson-evinrude-outboard/carburetor-kit.html

You can observe their pricing for the genuine kits and if someone is selling you something for a lot less……it’s probably not going to be what you need and want.

I’m 99% sure you are looking for part# 307583. These are the packing washers only and should be a part of carb kit 439071. I’m only assuming your motor uses this kit as it is a 10HP and other years in that bracket use that same kit.

If u have the kit you use the washers as replacements for the existing packing washers and the plastic (almost clear) washer as the support/packer for the other washers.

So, fiber, fiber, fiber, plastic would be the order the washers would enter the needle bore.

Hope I’m helping, if not please ignore.

              Best Regards
