I picked up 3 engines today, a JW-12, CD-12 and FD-10. All 3 in reasonable condition except for the CD-12 which seems seized. I can turn the flywheel slightly in both directions so I don’t think it’s the engine.

I dual line fuel tank in good condition was included, as well as a vintage NOS Johnson shipmaster remote control.

Anyway, my question is this: The model tag of the FD-10 lists it as FD-10 S. Does anyone know what the S stands for?

The trailing letter suffix indicates any mid year changes that were made, if any. I believe there were several that year. You need the latest edition of the parts book to identify them.

            According to the parts book:

            • 10S & 10L received new starter handles from #304324 to #304502
            • The gear & shaft assembly of the throttle was modified from #376306 to #376692

I can’t find any obvious differences between 10-L and 10-S.
I recall reading somewhere that the upper seal was modified, but I could be wrong.
