I truly am asking for a friend.
He said motor was running fine and as he slowed down he used the kill button to shut it off. Went to start it and no go. When the choke is on it will start and RPMs will build for a couple seconds then the motor dies. He tried squeezing the bulb while trying to start it thinking maybe fuel pump was bad but no help. Going over to look at it tomorrow. I’m sort of thinking it’s a fuel issue. He depressed the pin in the fuel connection and pumped the bulb and got gas that far. Possibly a blockage in the carb?
Any thoughts would be helpful. I should add he only recently purchased it and knows very little about the history of this motor. He did say that it sat for 2 years.
thanks

July 14, 2024 at 7:47 am #289134if you just acquired it the best thing to do is :
- totally clean the carb
- check the pump filter
- pull the fw and check if coils original… replace if cracked along with capacitors and may as weell install new plu g wires/boots
- use 7mm copper strand wire or metallic no carbon fiber wires !
- clean up the points and adj to .20 new points are getting complaints on quality
- change gear oil & impeller .. look for water intrusion.
- check-adjust timing if need be
- keep vent open
- if fuel hosei old -gray it could be bad.
- check for connector air leaks

July 14, 2024 at 10:30 pm #289158Spent some time with it today. Frustrating to say the least. Pulled the flywheel and coils/points/etc looked great. Didn’t run the carb through a ultrasonic cleaner but blew everything out and looked very clean. Didn’t clean the screen in the fuel pump which may have been a mistake. Reassembled everything and started it up and ran good. Shut it off and restarted no problem. Then everything went downhill. Motor refused to start or even pop. Sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb and it popped but wouldn’t run. Got frustrated and called it quits for the day. I still think it’s a fuel problem.
