Trying to identify this engine.  It is 2 cycle with a WICO flywheel magneto and a tillitson carburetor. It has been suggested that it might be a West Bend or an Elgin/Westbend.  Both the tags are missing.  Thanks.  Derek

It looks somewhat like a Sears Elgin. I see similarities in the pointed tank support and the “arrowhead” shaped advance lever.

The carb knob is Elgin for sure

From the way the gas tank and the engine is mounted I would think this would be for an inboard application.  What do you think?  Anyone have any paper work on this engine.  I’ve looked at several Elgin sites, but have been unable to find any pictures of this engine.  Thanks for all your help.

I wouldn’t think it would have been a factory made “inboard”,
if they didn’t start making Elgin’s until 1946.
Was anyone wanting inboard motors that late in the game?
Perhaps a small powerplant to run a pump, etc?

A couple of observations… The cover on the front of the carburetor and control knob looks strongly like Elgin, even the OD green color.

Also, note the bosses near the pully sheeve, looks like something was to be mounted, could have been a belt guard, or perhaps a screen guard for a fan.

            Very interesting set-up for sure

My guess is someone adapted an Elgin power to that belt drive. Gas tank and its mounts look to be home made. Wonder if it performed as intended? Very interesting. Would like to know more.      Tubs

I would like to see the connection of the carb to the Crankcase… see if someone made an adaptor plate to rotate the carb from vertical orientation to horizontal .

It sure does look like it was “field engineered”. I wonder if it has reduction gears.

That mounting base and blower housing with an integral support sure does look good for  homemade–if that is what it is.
