What is the  difference between a Champion QL82C and a QL77JC4 ?  At Marine Engine’s website it lists both for my motor.  It says the QL77JC4 is a radio noise suppression plug, which I don’t really care about.  Is there a heat range difference too?  I bought QL82Cs and found the motor has QL77Jc4s in it.  It’s a 1996  28 HP Evinrude “Special”  model 28ESLEDR I got recently.  If one type will make it idle better /longer  (higher heat range?) that’s what I want, as I’m going on a weeklong fishing trip soon and will be backtrolling for walleyes a lot.

      Thx,

      Dave

I decided to do some digging at a Champion Spark plug website and learned the difference between these plugs:

        • Both have low-resistance inductive radio noise suppression.
        • The QL82C is a hotter plug than the QL77JC4, so may be better for a lot of slow trolling.
        • The QL77JC4 comes pre-gapped at .040
        • No pre-gap spec on the QL82C was given.
        • The QL82C  has a “J-Gap”.
        • The QL77JC4 has a “Cut Back” gap.
        • All other dimensions, etc., are the same for both numbers.

If  anyone is interested in looking up specs on these or any other Champion plug number, I found them at this site – just put the plug number in the “Search by Part number” box and the specs will come up.

The 82s will probably be a better bet for trolling, gapped at .030″
