I am looking into reconverting my 25hp Evinrude back to electric start as someone changed it over to just be pull start for some reason, and I am wondering if a 1960 Johnson 40hp starter with the Johnson 40hp will just bolt on and work or if I will have to do a bit of modification to make it fit.

One way to check if the starter motor would work is by comparing the brackets they are mounted on, or if the starter motors part numbers line up, the one for the 40hp is 0381865, while I’m guessing the one for the 25hp is 0376858, which I believe you can buy new, so I’m gonna guess the starter motors are not the same, but if the 40hp one fits or you can make it fit, I’d use it, if not you can easily get a new one or get one off of Ebay most likely
