Hello, I have 1952 Evinrude 7.5 hope #4447. I’ve tried to get at water pump I removed clutch rod pin was able to drop lower unit but drive shaft and water pump housing remained in upper pump body and is stuck. Any ideas on how to remove it would be great. Removing power head seems impossible because of 2 screws in front blocked by the swing handle. Thanks in advance .
September 30, 2024 at 2:17 pm #291222Drive shaft passes through a bushing and can be a bear to remove if all coated with carbon and crud. Assuming there is no other problem, the good news is you don’t have to remove the drive shaft. The pump can be removed by simply prying/rocking it out. It likely has some corrosion around it. When you reassemble it, notice the pump housing, plate and flat spring are all keyed for proper alignment. Clean up the parts so they slip together easily and pay attention to the keys.
September 30, 2024 at 9:00 pm #291235Thanks for the input. The pump seems really stuck I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Seems like a real lousy design but she is 70 plus’s years old and runs great except for pump . Thanks again for the information.

Um speaking of lousy i think the impeller is obsolete?
October 1, 2024 at 11:04 am #291240You are definitely right about the housing screws and I was able to finally drop the pump thanks to your suggestion. I’m confused on most outboards I’ve had there’s a water tube going to the block and there is none in this unit. Am I missing something? I’ve looked at diagrams and don’t see any. Is this normal?
October 1, 2024 at 5:43 pm #291252Normal yes. It is cast as an integral passage in the exhaust tube and housings. I may post a picture later. Too sick to do it right now.
October 1, 2024 at 8:09 pm #291255Thanks and hope you feel better. The impeller is obsolete but I read that 1966 5-6-7.5 hp have almost identical. You just have to shave off some rubber. It’s worth a try, already on order. Once again thanks, you’ve been a big help. Get better.

If you have a belt sander, that works good to skinny those impellers a little on each side. You will also need to bore the ID out a little. Mine shoots water out maybe two foot behind the motor.
