Upon removal of the carburetor for cleaning and service I noted that the intake side of the carb looked like there may have been a “filter” or something attached there.  Also on a video of a nice restore of the same engine I think I saw a tube attached to that that had a 90 degree bend and the tube extended under the engine to the rear.  Could someone take a picture of that pipe or what ever it is and post it here so I could see it?  That seems to be the only part that is “missing” from my engine.  Just a curiosity question as I have it running now.  Thanks for the picture in advance.

That thin brass tube is often missing, It has a near 90 * bend. An original will be hard/ impossible to find. I did find a substitute, but it was by sheer luck… while rummaging through the brass scrap bin at my local “shopper friendly” junk yard I found an old utility sink faucet set. The spigot piece was thin brass, same size and with a near 90* bend, cut to length, it fit perfectly.  Finding one via this route may be harder than finding an original. But one never knows… keep an eye open in unlikely places.

When your motor was new all the brass was nickel plated, as was the water and fuel lines. The cylinders were also plated along with steering assembly. The new aluminum would have been bright and shiny and the gas tank polished.  Tubs

1922-23 A models had 90 degree nickel plated steel hot air tubes.1924 had nickel plated brass 90 degree and 1925 -1926 A-25 had curved aluminum with bell shaped end. What is the serial number stamped on the rope plate?

A and A-25 hot air pipes
Here’s a picture of a one from very early a model and of late 1926 A25 version. The square corner version can be made using 3/4” od copper or brass pipe cut and soldered. It can then be nickel plated.

Thank you gentlemen for coming through again with the info I was looking for.  That is a part I’m not going to get gray hair over trying to find but you answered my question.  If I find a suitable 3/4 copper or brass pipe I’d make one too and then it’s there.  But for now I’m happy to have an easy starting runner.  Any comment about it’s purpose?  Hot air tube but how would that benefit the running of the engine or how it performed?  Just curious…………….

In theory it allows pre-heated air-fuel mixture to be delivered to the cylinders. In actuality, the engines start and run fine without it

If you decide to make one be careful when tipping the motor up. This can be the result and possibly the reason yours is missing. Tubs

You could check with Doug or Matt Penn. They might have one. They are called Air Horns. I have purchased several from them in the past. Should not be too hard to find.
