      I am working on a ’58 OMC lower unit. Clean up and evaluate right now. I like the parts to be clean and the drillings to be open for water and exhaust. This drilling seams to me to not be drilled all the way through like it is suppose to be. See pictures. This is not the first time I have encountered this problem. Maybe quality control was sleeping on the day this motor was built! I know what is like to run drilling machines. Probably drilled all the holes at once. Anyone else have a problem like this?

          Those drains tend to plug up quite easily and can be a bit of a challenge to get open again. The hole isn’t very big to start with so it plugs up easily with carbon and sand etc. I find the easiest way is to weld an extension onto a good quality bit so you can drill all the way down. Just be careful to keep the drill from going thru into the gearcase! I did that once and had to drill from the bottom so I could insert a brass tube for a repair. That’s another story.

            OMG I don’t need a problem like that. I have a long 1/8" drill maybe I can get that through to the lower hole. Thanks

              I had one that was plugged with sand and whatever and it was hard like concrete. A regular drill bit would not drill the stuff out and would dull a regular drill bit. I had to weld a small carbide tipped masonry bit to a welding rod that I knocked the flux off to make a long drill to do the job.
