great looking boat and trailer. My guess is 17-18 MPH if you check it with GPS. Old boat speedos are notoriously inaccurate.
June 10, 2019 at 12:58 pm #177052You can leave the tiller on – just be sure all the throttle linkage is well-greased and freely moves. I don’t remember if those 15s have a steering tension adjustment (I have three of them but haven’t had time to get them running), if there is a steering tension adjustment, loosen it up – you won’t need added tension. Try all settings of the trim pin, and take along a couple paint stir sticks to shim it up on the transom for max speed. I agree with the MPH estimate ballpark the others said. Now if you have room, think of a pair of those 15s on the back! That will turn heads! I hope to pair up 15s someday on my Crestliner Viking14. Once the boat is setup for it, I may also try pairing 10s, and 35s, since the control hookups are all the same. I have my eyes open for a set of OMC dual remote controls, if anyone wants to sell.
DaveJune 10, 2019 at 1:28 pm #177057Thanks for all the tips. I have no speedometer, just an old fashion Lawrance GPS.
Been trying to flush, poke, and prod years of pine needles, bits of pine cones, and
muck from out from under all the enclosed seats. There’s 1/4″ square drain holes along
the floor in the seat enclosure panels, that constantly plug up.Prepare to be boarded!
June 13, 2019 at 2:18 pm #177214Well, today was the day all the stars lined up and I got the 14′ Cadillac boat out
for the first time with the 56 Evinrude, 15 hp Fastwin.
Motor started first pull, and ran great, but it turns out the Fastwin isn’t so fast,
pushing the boat a top speed of 12.9 mph, lol.
As related on the video, I though sure the throttle was not opening up all the way,
but once back to dry land, I played with it, and sure enough, it appears it is.
The throttle control gears are cycling all the way. Pretty sure the magneto to carb is sync’d
okay, but will check again.
“If” I remember correctly, this same motor, on my little 14″ Alumacraft AL, with
two people in the boat, did 18.2 mph last year.
The boat does leak some and I had about a gallon of water in the boat before I
was done playing. Next motor to try out will be the 25 hp Johnson RDE-17,
that I’ve never had on a boat.

June 13, 2019 at 7:16 pm #177226Something is not right. My ‘56 Fastwin pushes my Duranutic 13’ to 23mph with the stock prop. You need to try again. 18 -20 unless that Cadillac is a very heavy inefficient boat. It doesn’t look bad in your pictures.
June 13, 2019 at 7:39 pm #177227Hard to hear the motor in the video. Was it getting full rpm? It didn’t sound like it to me.

June 13, 2019 at 11:21 pm #177247I checked the throttle linkage every which way
on land, and from all appearance, the remote
conotrol was opening the throttle all the way.
Went back out on the lake this evening with my son.
Was only getting 11.5 mph wide open with the two
of us in the boat. It did “not” sound like the motor was
winding up all the way. After buzzing around the lake a
while, the trunion tube on the throttle cable came out
of the cable, making the remote control throttle useless.
Therefore while my son steered us home, I unhooked the
cable from the throttle control on the motor and ran it
via the tiller. Much to my surprise, we topped out at
16.2 mph. Therefore, there’s something I’m not seeing on the
cable set up. Have a new trunion and tube coming soon
as the threads are all buggered up on the one that fell apart,
so will try again soon!Prepare to be boarded!
June 14, 2019 at 9:19 am #177253That’s encouraging. +16 mph with two people sounds very reasonable.

Glad you are making progress. With prop changes and trimming, you should see some decent speed once you get your throttle linkages sorted out.
I get about 22-23MPH with my Super Fastwin on my 14′ Mirro-Craft running solo.
