I took points apart and polished them this evening and set timing. I may see if it fires up this weekend

Installed seal last night. Will clean up points and see if it will fire. Probably will go through the carb too. Everything under flywheel was newer but it still had j4j plugs in it.

elgin there are two things that could make all that oil in points area.  Obviously the seal, but also check  the drilling from that top seal to the  carb side of the reed valve.  It needs to be open.  OMC and other motors have an oiling system that uses crankcase compression to lube the crank bearings.  Sometimes the drilled holes get corroded or someone uses to much sealant on the reed block gasket and the drilled port gets plugged.
