Hello: We need to find a coil dead or alive for a 1914 Evinrude Shreveport outboard or something that will work. Any thoughts or information on the motor would be greatly appreciated.
May 7, 2020 at 8:17 pm #202436Me bad. It is a Sieverkropp engine with an ignition system marked ” Evinrude System” 1914. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
May 7, 2020 at 8:56 pm #202438Photos? Possibly a common Evinrude RBM coil could be used. 1914 is the first year for Evinrude’s magneto and I think the coil used that year is one-year-only. If it is a 1914 Evinrude coil then you may consider having it rewound.

May 10, 2020 at 1:00 am #202652Hello Wayne: Thank you for getting back. The coil is missing. It may well be the same as the RBM. It would be helpful to get a look at a coil for the same as well as the flywheel. The flywheel is marked Evinrude system 1914. Even if we find a dead coil would be a huge help. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We can rewind these.

Buzz coils fire when the points make contact and the car coil fires when the contacts break as was the original design. We rewind magneto coils and even a dead coil would be a big help. If the flywheel is the same inside and out possibly this is the coil setup it is supposed to have. If the radius and orientation of the poleshoes of the magnet are the same it should work. It would make sense for Ole to market his ignition system that he is already tooled up for to other engine builders. Any more info would be greatly appreciated.

May 10, 2020 at 11:58 pm #202742Hello: Many thanks for the reply. That might be the coil. The distance between the flywheel magnet pole shoes is 6 3/8″.
July 29, 2024 at 7:47 am #289514I’m at the point of reassembling a 1914 Evinrude Model B. It’s completely apart. Numerous questions:
1 Do I use a sealant when assembling the bronze crank case halves? If so what should I get?
2 There didn’t appear to be any gasket in-between the cylinder and the bronze crank case. Do I need a gasket? How thick? or some kind of sealant?
3 Is there a way to test the magneto before installing it? Resistance readings etc??
4 I REALLY NEED A NEW GAS TANK!! ANY ADVICE??
