Tonight I put the crankcase back together and put the newly painted cylinders over the pistons…….TWICE!
I had the wrong piston in the wrong hole and things wouldn’t go all the way around. At least I discovered my error before I went any further!
Its not often I do something right the first time.
I do everything over. I bought a new heat gun the
other day. The position of low and high speed are
opposed of the one I had. Took the gun apart to
reverse the switch. When I was done it was
exactly the same as before I took it apart. D’oh!

Bob in sunny York. I’ve got a pretty nice A 35 fuel tank with some of the “Starting and Oiling” decals still on it, Couple small dings in it, but still darn good. I’ ll bring it to Lincolns on the 30th if you’ll be there. You know what the price will be.Respectfully,

The boat house is disappearing as these lake
“Improvement” associations would like to see
them all gone, on this lake anyway. Of the few
that remain, all are over 100 years old, accept
for the red one with the platform. It was built
about 70 years ago. They would like to see
these old gone as well.

March 13, 2024 at 8:28 am #285898I think those old boathouses are great and add to the beauty and history of the lakes. Monster cottages do not. Only my opinion. Thanks for the photos Tubs. I enjoyed them.

March 13, 2024 at 11:27 am #285917Beautiful old boathouses! That’s my kind of lake! A lake where you can just put along and enjoy the shoreline. I really miss that feeling of contentment!
March 13, 2024 at 2:12 pm #285919Tubs, was your collection of photos from a variety of lakes and ponds? Boathouses are increasingly rare here in Maine. I’d be surprised (but pleased) to find that all those are on your pond.

Yes Dave, all the boat houses are on the same pond.
You can only maintain them. Cant replace them, can’t
add on to them. If its lost to a storm or fire, they can’t
be rebuilt on this lake.
I first spent part of my summer on this lake as a guest
of a friend of my grandfather when I was 6. That will
be 73 summers ago this summer. No electricity, out
house, bathe in the lake. Nothing like a lake bath when
its raining, wind blowing, low 60’s, and the lake is in the
mid 70’s. Actually the lake feels warm on those days.
2006 we moved up to an out door shower and we have
all the facilities where we stay now.
I’ve never owned property here but have been fortunate
to have a place to rent. I know many of the people on the
lake, some for all their life. Its home to me. Still a peaceful
lake. (except for me) Most times when I’m running
my old motors I’m the only one out there. Some days
I’m the only boat on the pond for the whole day. The lake
has seen some changes over the summers that I’ve got to
stay there. The people that I grew up with had a different
appreciation for the lake. I can remember once, not long
ago, when making a trip around the lake, I saw a guy, on
his dock, sitting in a chair, turned around, so he could look
at his building. Without electricity and indoor pluming
most that own property today wouldn’t be here.
Most are from out of state looking for a place to get away
from it all. Thing is the first thing they do when the get a
place is turn it into any subdivision USA like what their
trying to get away from?
I stayed here the year it was built and most every summer
for 51 years. (Army made me miss a few) Was told we
would always have a place to stay as long as we wanted to
come, but when people pass properties change hands.
Its still a really nice lake and I’m lucky to still be able to
visit, but its not the lake I remember as a boy.
