I have a 1935 Champion Model A that I am doing a restoration for display only. This is the first year Scott-Attwater built motor.
I am attempting to disassemble the Lower unit in order to remove all the grease and gunk and can’t figure out how to remove the prop gear. I have removed the prop shaft and the gear remains in the housing but the front and back openings in the cast lower housing are too small to get out the gear!
Also I can’t seem to remove the drive shaft housing from the cast lower unit housing. I have removed all bolts associated with the lower drive and removed the water pump plunger and spring.
Has any one had experience on how to overcome this disassembly problem?
I have encountered situations where the gears are pinned to their respective shafts. In order to remove the gears the pins have to be driven out, then shafts remover. The gears can then be removed from the case.
