Good Morning,
I’m currently working towards generating a complete set for the 1935 Evinrude Sportsman.
This is the motor with the cast tank with the integral reed valve carb, I’m trying to determine how thick the reed cover gasket should be. The reed is .010″ thick. The motor was last put together with homemade gaskets. The reed cover gasket is .010 thick which allows the cover to clamp the fixed end of the reed against the housing essentially clamping it in place. I’ve heard this reed is supposed to “float” which would dictate a thicker gasket? This motor appears to have a lot of run time on it with the thinner gasket and there appears to be no wear from the reed floating around on it pins.
