The subject motor is missing some parts for the “Kill button”.
There was a wire hanging loose below the magneto, that
evidently hooked up to some kind of kill button in the hole
shown in the photos.
Laying loose inside of the hole was a round carbon brush.
I have to think that I’m missing a button, spring and something
to hook the magneto wire up to.I’m not sure why they would locate the kill button where they
did, as I’d likely be floundering around, reaching back, looking
forward, and grab the spark plug!Anyone have a parts manual for this motor, or photos of
the kill button in question?
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!

I just found a video of a 300 model on YouTube that does not
show a push button, but rather a metal plug screwed in the side.
Not sure what pieces I’m missing, but evidently it was some
kind of contactor setup that killed the engine.Do you have photos of the bottom of the magneto, etc?
P.S.- You don’t have to tear apart your motor to get photos! Thanks, Much appreciated!

September 27, 2022 at 5:32 pm #266793It’s been a few years since I worked on my 300’s but if I remember correctly, they have an insulated screw on the mag plate which makes contact with ground when the speed control leaver is moved all the way to the left. It might have a flat or bell shaped washer on it which makes the contact, not sure.
Near the end of the parts manual is the mag diagram showing this insulated screw assembly.
September 27, 2022 at 6:28 pm #266803Thanks Mumbles! The parts diagram will help me rig something up that should work.
Just a while ago, when checking spark plug routing, I came to the realization that
the threaded hole on the port side of the motor is not for a kill button, but rather
a friction plug for the magneto plate tension.
However, on the end of the flange that the friction plug rides on, there’s a drilled hole,
and that appears to be for the grounding assembly that kills the engine.Another mystery is the brass plate bolted on the mag bottom side. It shows it in
the parts diagram, and has a part number for it, but I do not see it in the list.I also see what the spark plug wire hold-down clip, that I’m missing, looks like
from the manual.
Much appreciated!First photo shows where the plug wire hold-down should bolt to, and
the mystery brass plate.
I assumed that the condenser in mine, was a round condenser that someone
soldered to the top of the old rectangular condenser can, and the diagram
confirmed this.
The kill switch hole, flange that the friction plug rides on, and again, the mystery brass piece.

September 28, 2022 at 2:55 pm #266840FYI, the mystery brass piece on the bottom of the mag plate is no longer a mystery.
As I was looking at it this morning, and wondered “Why is it cam shaped?”,
I thought to see if it could be the throttle cam…….. sure enough, it is.
It’s the tiniest throttle cam I’ve ever seen!Magneto about done…… hopefully a spark test later today.

September 28, 2022 at 5:48 pm #266845Mumbles, that old gal sure runs nice!
I noticed today that the spark plug wires coming out of
the bottom, back of the mag plate, lay right on top
of the muffler, and the later is not water cooled.
Have you noted this to be an issue?I can’t tell from the parts manual, but I presume
that there was originally some grommets where
the plug wires exit to “daylight”.
Did you have to make some new ones?
The last guy before me used a chunk of fuel hose for
a grommet. Works, but not the best looking. We now have spark on “Both” cylinders!

Ever have it running yet? Kind of fun to work on something
a little out of the norm once in a while!Prepare to be boarded!
