I have an Evinrude Scout I’m restoring. I’d like to get it running rather than just be a wall hangar. I have the flywheel off and figured I should clean up the points before putting it back together. It was then that I noticed the points are not opening at all. Taking a hard look at the points they don’t look like any points set I have seen on an engine of any type. (I’ve attached a picture below.) They look like they are composed of a solid piece of metal with no visible adjustment. Furthermore, the only thing I can see between the cam and the movable portion of the points is a felt pad. Is there something solid buried in the felt pad to actuate the points? How do I adjust them? And what is the point gap supposed to be?
Any and all advice would be welcome.
Thanks,
Scott
