It will probably be hard to find a decently straight tank for a motor which has been in service for 80 plus years so you might have to break out the Bondo and elbow grease and settle for a painted one instead of polished. At least one member here has taken the time and effort to straighten and polish dented tanks and the finished results are incredible!

I do have a fairly decent KD-15 tank here but need it for a future project. Sorry. Here’s a 9.8 horse KA-37 tank which had lots of wounds on it so I ended up painting it with automotive base/clear.

Looks great!  I think that’s the route that I’ll take.  What color paint did you use?

This  tank was done in ’96 Ford Silver Frost. I can’t remember the code offhand but I bought it for the body repairs I was doing on my truck and found out  there are three different shades of the Silver Frost that year with the same code.  My paint supplier had the sample chips and we both decided this particular shade matched the original paint on my truck best.

If you want a certain color or shade, try driving around a large parking lot until you see a vehicle done in the color you want. Making a note of the make and model and hopefully the year will aid in getting the code. If you’re lucky, the owner will return from shopping and let you look at the paint code printed on the vehicles ID plate.
