Got this from my neighbor. Possibly sitting for as long as 40 years. 🙄 I don’t even know where to start. Nothing is froze up, easy, slow pull on the starter handle seems like it works just fine. Can anyone tell me how to check the oil in the lower unit? How to confirm that it’s pumping water like it should? What else should I check?

1/2 pint marine 2cycle oil to 1gal gas.I think it spits water out of a hole at about transom level on the down tube. Not a lot just fine spray. They run pretty hot.Use grease shown in little gear case, screws are shown in pics.Big one where grease goes in,little one vent.Other pic shows primer pump/high speed needle other pic shows low speed on other side of motor kind of tucked away underneath. They are a fun little motor.

Is there a substitute for the lubriplate 105? I’m having trouble finding it locally…

Yes, John Deere cornhead grease. A lot of members here use it.
Nice looking motor! I parted one of those out last year, but one year newer. The model number was changed to HD-10 in 1940. I do have a restored 1941 HD-20, myself.

I put some gas in it let it sit for a few and it wasn’t pouring out anywhere. So I greased up the lower end, stuck it in some water but it wouldn’t start. I never did check for spark. After a few minutes it was starting to drip gas out of various places. I’m sure anything on it made out of rubber needs to be replaced…at least
