I am looking for information on a replacement coil for a 1940 Champion 3.2 kingfisher motor model S1F. It appears to have a wico 2156 or 2158 not sure because the numbers are very hard to see! Any help would be much appreciated. This is a father son project that we would love to hear run again! Thanks

This is the coil in my S1F Champion.
Mine had good spark, but this magneto
may be a candidate for an OMC universal coil transplant.

How did you determine your coil is B.O.?

I checked and have no spark. Points have been cleaned and set, plug wire tested good, primary coil tested okay but secondary was very weak.

Are you saying you had good ohm meter readings on the primary but not the secondary?
Did you install a new condenser?

Ohms can test OK, but insulation could be breaking down inside the coil where you cant see it, shunting the spark away.

Have you checked the condenser on this? Those coils are usually good. There are several other brands that use that same coil. Also check the points with your meter to make sure the resistance is near zero. I have had problems with connectors having high resistance so that is another place to check.
Spark plug is a #7 or a Champion D16 gapped at 0.030″, points gapped at 0.015″, oil ratio is 3/4 pint oil to a gallon gas.
Good luck with your motor, they do run well.
